The Chilean Plastics Pact (PCP) was signed in April 2019 led by Fundación Chile and the Ministry of the Environment, with the aim of rethinking the future of plastics by bringing together all the actors in the value chain: companies, sector public and NGOs. The initiative is part of the Global Network of Plastics Pacts launched in 2018 by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in the United Kingdom.
It is necessary to work jointly and articulately, generating collaboration and innovation to propose new ways of manufacturing, using, reusing and recycling plastics. It is urgent to address and prevent environmental problems, but at the same time the Pact invites us to take advantage of the enormous opportunity for value creation that is generated.
Chile is the third country to implement the Plastics Pact, along with the United Kingdom and France, and is the first country in Latin America to join this Global Network in which they —also— participate France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, South Africa, Portugal, United States, Poland, Canada and Kenya. Two regional pacts have also been signed: the European one and that of Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Island Nations.
This initiative expresses the determination to collaboratively lead the change in production models and, with it, their impacts on the environment.
